The USM-3 is a SMG, the PPS' are a litle mixture.
Machinegun / rifle whatever.
But it's confusing to call it machinegun since the "machineguns" are on heavy tripod stands like the old German MG42. There are also lighmachineguns LMGs like the russian PK or the American M60.

Guys....
SMG is a machine gun that shoots pistol rounds. Like the Thompson, H&K MP5, etc... They shoot 9mm and .45ACP.
A machine gun shoots rifle rounds. M16's, AK's etc. are Light Machine Guns, or assault rifles. They are light, portable, and are fed by means of a box magazine. M60, MG42, FN M249 Saw, are Machine Guns. Typically belt-fed, heavy, slower rate of fire. But they spray LOTS of lead!

Well, maybe but,
the M60 and the FN-"SAW" is portable and a standard infantry-group wpn therefore LMG. The German MG42 requires two soldiers, one that aims and one that reloads then it's a MG (they are mostly static), modern variant is the US M-2 (not M-3 which is a SMG).
The m16 can be called machine gun yes, but thats not a proper name for it. And rifle is not a proper name either.

ALPHA has to correct answere.....MACHINE GUNS use rifle rounds and SUB-MACHINE GUNS use pistol ammo.
The BAR in .50 was made as a RIFLE way back in WW1 to shoot holes in somthing new called a TANK....by WW2 that same round was used in Americas heavy machine gun.
It is also trying to be made illeagl by bone-heads (aka CONGRESS)under some bullsh*t about "snipper class" weapon (all tho from WW1 till this day no .50 has EVER been used in a crime).
(also note that the BAR is also made in .30 as in 30-06 (first) and the now more common .308)

Congress pfff I read they wanna ban the .50BMG because it is an "anti-aircraft" round! They think terrorists will be able to shoot down planes with single shot big bores! A .50 cal should be the least of their worries. But I am going to pick up a Barrett .50BMG asap just in case they decide to ban them. Love grandfather laws

Well myself I dont think ANY firearm should sell for around $5,000......
By the way the latest NEWS from the maker of that firearm has told the L.A.P.D. that HE WILL NOT SELL NOR WILL HE SERVICE any of the firearems they have already bought from his company (one of the NEWS pcs I dug up for one of the radio programs topics one night).
See....some people just will not support "Brown Shirts".
